Richard O’Kelly got his first look at The Bulls squad in action at Macclesfield on Tuesday so it will be interesting to see what effect and reaction his input has on the team following that match.

Having spent nearly ninety years at their Christie Park ground, The Shrimps moved to the new Globe Arena last season.  The stadium has a capacity of just less than 6500 with about a third of that seated.  Visiting fans are accommodated in the East Terrace with some seats available in the main stand and as you would expect at a new stadium, the facilities and view are good.

Admission to the East Terrace is believed to be £15 for adults, £12 for concessions (over 65’s and NUS) and £6 for U16’s.  Children under 5 have free admission. There is a £3 premium for seats in the main stand.

HUISA – departs from Radford’s at 8.30 am with a fare of £22 (members £20).  Seats can be booked through the Club office (08442 761939).

BY CAR – Travel to Worcester and join the M5 (North). Continue onto the M6, leave at junction 34, then take the A683 towards Lancaster and take the A589 towards Morecambe. Go straight across two roundabouts passing a McDonalds outlet on your left. At the next roundabout (where there is a Toby Carvery) take the first exit into Westgate Road (signposted West Promenade, Sandylands). Continue along this road for about one mile and you will reach the stadium on your right.  Beware of speed cameras on the M6 north of Thelwall viaduct and also on the A589 approaching Morecambe.  There may be some parking at the stadium but otherwise use street parking.  Distance is about 186 miles and you should allow three and a half hours.  Postcode is LA4 4TB.

REFRESHMENTS – The traditional pub to visit in Morecambe was The York Hotel near to the old ground and this is still an option being a ten-minute walk from the new ground.  Nearest watering hole to the Globe Arena for visitors is the Regent Leisure Holiday Park just a couple of minutes walk along Westgate.  By extending your walk to seven or eight minutes back along Westgate to Glentworth Road West, you will find the William Mitchell offering a large Sky screen, several real ales and reasonably priced snacks as well as a large beer garden.  The Smugglers Den on Poulton Road is CAMRA listed and therefore worth a visit.  If you get as far as the seafront (remembering to pay homage to Eric), there are plenty of premises to relieve you of a few shillings.  The local ‘Spoons offering is the aptly names Eric Bartholomew on Euston Road (near the station).

Sun hat and deckchairs packed and ready to go.
