News Round-Up

Bristol Rovers boss Mark McGhee says he wants to keep loanee Aaron Downes at the club next season despite the Chesterfield man not being able to play again this term due to injury. The 26 year old midfielder was voted by fans as their player of the month for January. Sligo Rovers boss Paul Cook has asked the club to be allowed to speak to Accrington over their managerial vacancy. The 44 year old is a former player at the Crown Ground.

Weymouth owner George Rolls has again denied he is on the verge of a takeover of Kettering after the Non-League Paper made the claim in their lead story yesterday. Rumours have circulated for the past few days that the Poppies are on the verge of a sale. Former Bulls loanee keeper Gary Phillips has been named as goalkeeper coach at Stevenage. The former Barnet manager was a teammate of new Stevenage boss Gary Smith at Underhill.

Darlington's Administrator is to speak to investors today who want to build a snowdome and homes on land next to the club's stadium. Meanwhile former Bulls midfielder Kris Taylor, currently with the Quakers, has seen his wedding plans disrupted after the venue for his reception went bust, taking his £1,000 deposit with it.

Accrington are seeking another sponsor after their 'substantial' deal with a local drinks firm failed to materialise. The 18 month deal would have seen their ground renamed but the firm, which claimed to employ 450 people just two months after being formed, has been thrown out of their rented offices over non-payment of rent and are not returning calls.
