Nene Park could be seeing it's second club fold within six months with Kettering seemingly set to follow Rushden into the abyss.
The Poppies were hammered 7-0 at the weekend, and were able to raise just 13 players due to injuries and departures. Manager Mark Stimson had only seven in training on Friday ahead of the game with one non-contract player walking out and another opting to take paid work in Scotland to earn some money.
Stimson expects the wage bill, due today, to go unpaid and reckons more players will walk, telling the Northampton Chronicle: “I think we will lose a couple of players this week, we have had two clubs putting in seven day notices for Ellis Deeney so I think he will be gone and Nathan Koo-Boothe de-registered on Friday.
“And come this afternoon, they probably won’t have been paid and that means more may be missing tomorrow.
“There is only so much a manager and his staff can do. It is going to be very tricky to raise a team for tomorrow.”
Kettering are expected to face Darlington on Tuesday night, with the bookies rating them at high as 9/1 to record a home win.
