Flynn hits back at Peters over Cornell Call-up

Brain Flynn, manager of the Welsh under 21 squad, has hit back at Gary Peters, the director of football at Hereford United, over the decision to take David Cornell on a walking holiday when Peters wants him to keep goal against Yeovil in the FA Cup next Saturday.

Cornell is in the Welsh under 21 squad that plays in Armenia next Tuesday and Peters has accused Flynn of being ignorant and lacking common sense.

"We are travelling to Armenia this Friday," Flynn told the Western Mail.

"I’m not picking David to be selfish, I am picking him because he is a good player.

"When I was a club manager I had players who were picked for Wales and they went with my blessing.

"David’s having a good season and that’s why he is being picked for Wales. I don’t pick bad players."

Peters had told Flynn that Cornell could fly out to join the squad after Saturday's game but this idea was rejected by Flynn.
