Much has been written concerning the wrongs and wrongs of the former Wimbledon FC and the emergence of a new Football League in distant Buckinghamshire but to those of us with a few too many years behind us, Wimbledon is and always should be a team from south-west London.
Their current home is The Cherry Red Records Fans' Stadium Kingsmeadow. The Cherry Red name was, in its early days, associated with gig promotion at The Malvern Winter Gardens particularly during the punk era of the late seventies.
The stadium has a capacity of approaching 5000 with places for around 700 visiting fans on a section of the partially covered John Smith's Terrace. Admission is believed to be £15 for adults, Concessions £9 and U16's £2. AFCW operate a strict ID policy for concessions and U16's…if you can't prove your eligibility, you'll be charged full adult price.
HUISA – Departs from Radford's at 8.30 am with a fare of £23 (members £21). Seats can still be booked through the Club office (08442 761939).
By Car – Travel to Gloucester then follow signs Cirencester/Swindon on the A417. Continue to join the M4 (Sign London) south of Swindon. Leave the M4 at J10 and follow the A329(M) towards Bracknell and on to Bagshot on the A322. After Bagshot, join the M3 (Sign London). Leave the M3 junction 1 then, at Sunbury Cross roundabout, take the fourth exit onto the A308 (Sign Kingston). At Kingston Bridge, bear left onto the A307. Continue on the A307 until you rejoin the A308 by taking a left at a set of lights then, at the next lights, take a right turn onto the A2043 (sign New Malden). Kingsmeadow is about half a mine on your left. There may be some parking at the ground if you arrive early otherwise there is limited street parking nearby. Distance is about 140 miles and you should allow at least three hours. Postcode is KT1 3PB.
Refreshments - There are a couple of bars in the Main Stand that sometimes admit visitors with The Duke of Wellington and The Prince of Wales a short walk along the A2043 towards New Malden. The Sir Robert Peel, complete with cavorting ladeeeees, can be found on Cambridge Road as you walk back towards Kingston. There is a chip shop near the entrance to the ground.
Enjoy (fingers crossed).
