Rushden and Diamonds have been expelled from the Conference following their AGM.
The Nene Park outfit had debts reported to be £750,000, and are due in court on Monday to face a winding up order. It is believed that they will drop into the Zamaretto (Southern) League Premier division providing the club itself does not fold.
Rushden's expulsion means that Southport have been reprieved from relegation, while Bishops Stortford have been moved from Conf South to North to replace the Sandgrounders - a move that has not gone down well with supporters who will now face trips of up to 600 miles for some games.
UPDATE: Rushden have released a statement claiming that the Conference changed their demands on the club late on Thursday and gave them a 3pm Friday deadline to meet the new demands. The club say that was impossible, while the Conference also rejected a last minute offer of a £350,000 deposit paid by former owner Keith Cousins. They will hold an open meeting with fans next week to discuss a course of action, with the club having a right of appeal.
