The People newspaper is reporting that Glenn Hoddle is set to become Stockport's new manager, taking his Academy set up to Edgeley Park, if the current shareholders drop their financial demands for a takeover.
After talks with Rushden fell through when the Conference rejected their rescue plan, Hoddle and his financial backers have turned their main focus to Stockport. Among those backers are reported to be Stockport based darts player Tony 'Silverback' O'Shea and the sports editor of a national newspaper. The paper also claims Phil 'The Power' Taylor is on the fringes of the consortium.
Their plans include a new stadium and sports university in Stockport, but the deal hinges on the sums the current shareholders are prepared to walk away from the club for. Leaked emails to a fans site suggest they have offered existing shareholders their investments back, but some are holding out for a cut of the profits of the proposed development.
