At this weekend's Conference AGM and awards evening, Kettering chairman Imraan Ladak hijacked the BBC's Non-League Show recording equipment and interviewed a number of prominent Conference figures:
Steve Evans revealed that Crawley's budget for the 09/10 season was £380,000, earning them seventh place, but that to win the Conference you had to have 'a seven figure budget' and that he thought you needed £500,000 just to make the Conference play-offs thesedays.
AFC Wimbledon boss Terry Brown revealed he had £440,000 to play with at the start of the season, but it was increased as they had a good FA Cup run. He says the budget will increase by 21% just by going to the full 52-week pay structure from the 44-week structure they worked under last term, plus the players will also be getting pay rises.
Brown believes his budget for the coming season will be one of the lowest in the division, but he believes the squad he has will be competitive as they have been together for two years. He also told Ladak that he had spoken to around half the managers in League Two, and that the average budget was going to be £1million+ for the coming season.
