Lease Deal Needs Completing

As yet, there has been no news of the completion of a new lease, or leases, for Edgar Street, Hereford United's football ground.

And with council elections due in early May, it might be better to complete any deal before they take place in case control of the council changes to a leadership not as keen on supporting the football club.

This afternoon current leader Roger Phillips revealed he is to stand down although he hopes to continue as a councillor. It's probably fair to say that he has done as much as he reasonably could over the past few months to help steer the club towards a new lease deal. A new leader might not be so keen.

Hereford United needs a new long lease so it can plan ahead with reasonable certainty for the future. Until the announcement that it had come to an agreement with the Richardsons, who had held the first lease from the council, it was dificult to get all sides around a table. Now it's just the club and the council. Life should be easier.

Meanwhile, one Hereford United supporter has told BN that is he likely to throw his hat into the ring for the forthcoming election. He is expected to stand as an independent for an area just outside the City.
