Following the departures of both manager Chris Hutchings and his assistant Martin O’Connor, former Bulls defender and current Head Of Youth Football, Dean Smith, has been put in temporary charge of first team matters at League 1 bottom club Walsall.
The Bescot Stadium outfit are currently eight points short of safety after collecting 17 points from 21 games.
Dean Smith joined the Bulls from Walsall for £80,000 in 1994, which is still a record purchase for Hereford. His three years at Hereford were on-the-whole successful, although relegation in his final game was a huge disappointment. Following the drop in status of the club, Smith moved on to Leyton Orient for £42,500 in the summer of 1997, where he just missed on promotion following the play-off final defeat in 1998/99. In 2002/03, he was signed by Division One side Sheffield Wednesday.
