Now It's Upto Davey And His Squad

Hereford United go into the new season with renewed hope and expectation after the biggest upheavel off the pitch for well over ten years.

Then Graham Turner took over the running of the club having purchased the shares of Peter Hill and eventually Robin Fry.

Today Turner is gone. In truth he had probably outstayed his welcome. And whilst he will always be thanked for keeping the club afloat and eventually taking the Bulls back into the League, he failed to take the club forward off the pitch in his latter years at Edgar Street.

His failure, however, may have made new chairman David Keyte's task, somewhat easier.

Keyte has already shown that he means to take the club forward. His promise to get the leases back from the Richardsons, which looks likely to happen, has gone down well with supporters.

And his view that the club must reconnect with the local community has been put into practice with fans forums, an open day, and other initatives. Supporters appear impressed.

The feelgood factor has returned to Hereford United. However the momentum off the pitch needs to happen on the pitch as well for the final piece of the new jig-saw to fall into place.

New manager Simon Davey has a difficult task starting today at Crewe. All eyes will be on him and his small squad to, at the very least, put on a performance that will give supporters hope for the coming season.

A win would be brilliant, a draw probably acceptable, but should the Bulls lose this first game, the reports need to suggest that there was plenty of positives to take from the game so that supporters will flock to Edgar Street for Tuesday's Carling Cup game and next Saturday's first home League game.

Now it's upto Davey and his squad. We wish them every success.
