Midfield will be key against The U’s

The Bulls face a Colchester team on Tuesday evening that is likely to include a brace of young midfielders that earned them an opening day point at Exeter.

Both the U's goals came from 21 year-old Anthony Wordsworth who lined up in the central area alongside 24 year-old Andy Bond. Bond is a player that Colchester boss and former Cheltenham manager John Ward picked up from non-league Barrow during the close season. He has set himself a double figures goal target for the current season.

Although officially operating a midfield three of Kemi Izzet, David Perkins and Bond, Wordsworth plays a role that allows him to operate from just behind main striker Kayode Odejayi and break into the opponent's box. Wordsworth is also their free kick specialist from areas around the box netting from 25 yards against the curtain burners.

In Perkins and Bond Colchester have a pair who are known for their box to box energy and will need to be carefully matched if The Bulls are to control the vital central area.
