The managing director of Darlington, Graham Fordy, has given an interview to BBC Tyne Tess about events surrounding the departure of their manager Simon Davey.
"The chairman had an e-mail from Simon over the weekend tendering his resignation as he can do in his contract. We tried to contact him by phone, we left messages on his voice-mail, on his mobile, sent texts to his blackberry and e-mails to his blackberry but he failed to respond.
"Then this morning we actually received a hard copy of the e-mail through the post so we took it that was definite. Therefore we have accepted his resignation.
"He hasn't given any reasons. I spoke to his agent on Monday who claimed he knew nothing about it then half an hour later we got an e-mail from Simon just saying there was nothing to do with the club or with his relationships, just a personal matter and he wished to leave our employment. That's all we know.
"He's due back into the UK on Sunday and no doubt the press will get his comments when he arrives back.
"In the weeks leading up to this, he's signed eight players and another three offers in. He's signed a training ground agreement.
"I've been talking to Ryan Kidd, his number two. Ryan and him have been friends and have worked together for ten years. He hasn't contacted Ryan.
"Something is not quite right. But there's been no falling out, no reduction of budget, no disagreements."
Asked if he had received any contact from Hereford:
"We've had no contact from any football club with regard to Simon. I think their website at the present time says that they will be announcing their manager on Saturday, they interviewed him last week, but Simon was in America last week and he's not due back in the UK until Sunday.
"It's disappointing as Simon was a big personality around the club, a person I got on with very well and he always seemed to be one that if he had anything to say he would say it.
"It's amazed me that he hasn't picked up the phone to either myself or the chairman and said look this is what has happened. For this or that reason this is what I'm going to do, but obviously he's got his reasons that he is not doing that, so we just move on."
