Darlington have confirmed that Simon Davey has quit the club - but say they have received no contact from the Bulls about him.
In a statement on their official site, chairman Raj Singh says: "We tried contacting Simon on several occasions and he wouldn't take our calls. Graham Fordy spoke to his agent who denied all knowledge about the situation and we then spoke to his assistant Ryan Kidd yesterday, who was just as flabbergasted as we were.
"Unfortunately we've now had official confirmation from him in writing that he wishes to leave. The reason for the delay in making a statement about this was because we wanted to speak to Simon to try and resolve the situation, but he's made it clear he's made his decision.
"It's very disappointing and frustrating that we've not been able to speak directly to Simon about this so that he could explain to us exactly why he's made this decision.
"He has very briefly cited personal reasons and insists that it's nothing personal or detrimental about me or the club. I can confirm that we've had no contact whatsoever from Hereford United, or any other club, regarding his contractual situation here.
"It's very disappointing, to say the least. We gave Simon everything that he'd asked for, as we did with the previous two managers, and the rumours that we cut his budget is simply not true."
