Preview: Bulls vs Notts County

The Bulls entertain Notts County on Saturday in League Two action at Edgar Street.

The Bulls had a torrid time in their first season facing the Magpies, losing both games. The two sides then spent 19 seasons apart before meeting in the 06/07 season with the Bulls winning both games. The season after the Bulls won 3-2 at Meadow Lane before claiming a goalless draw at Edgar Street on New Years Day 2008, so the Bulls will be defending a four match unbeaten streak.

Unlike their guests on Saturday, the Bulls haven't been making the headlines this season. A disasterous start has been replaced with steady progress. The addition of youngsters Nathaniel Wedderburn and Jordon 'must have a foot like a traction engine' Mutch saw the Bulls put out a side on Tuesday night with an average age that would struggle to get into some nightclubs. Another win on Saturday can put the Bulls within touching distance of the play-offs - and within three points of the big spending Magpies.

Notts County have endured more off-field publicity than any League Two side. Claims of broken contracts, sudden departures, and unpaid fees by a complex ownership have tainted what is otherwise a strong start for a side that would have otherwise been spending another term bounding around the bottom six like a wounded animal. However the top six wasn't good enough to keep Ian McParland in a job and his replacement, Hans Backe, has won only one of his five League matches - earning three less points that his predecessor did in his final five games.
