Allen officially leaves Cheltenham

Sky Sports are this evening reporting that Martin Allen has now parted company, by mutual consent, with Cheltenham Town. The controversial manager has been on “gardening leave” for the last couple of months but The Club has today confirmed that he has now finally departed.

Allen was reported to have racially abused a nightclub doorman although Police have never pressed charges. The Club, in the meantime, have conducted their own enquiry prior to today’s announcement.

"Naturally I am very pleased with the outcome in terms of being found innocent of the charges but it is unfortunate that it has not been possible for me to remain at the club as manager," said Allen in a statement.

"I would like to thank Cheltenham for giving me a fair hearing and the LMA for all of their support, including the legal team at Russell Jones & Walker, during this difficult period."

John Schofield has been in temporary charge of team affairs since during Allen’s enforced absence and it seems he will continue in the role for the time being.
