Hereford United chairman Graham Turner thought he was going to Leominster last Monday evening to listen to Barry Fry, the director of football at Peterborough.
However, according to Ian Morgan in the Hereford Times, Fry couldn't make the meeting because Darren Ferguson was about to leave the club and Graham Turner was asked if he would deputise for Fry.
Event organiser John Beaman had a phone call from Fry to say he was in a board meeting and so acted quickly to ensure the 180 strong audience at Leominster Rankin were not let down.
Later Turner joined Independent journalist and local resident Brian Viners on stage.
“We were a bit worried when Barry rang at 5pm to say he would not be able to make it but we had a very good evening,” said Beaman.
“Graham was only coming along to see Barry and he was obviously a bit upset about Darren because he had signed him as player for Wolves.
“We asked Graham and Brian if they wouldn’t mind stepping into the gap and they kindly agreed. We had an excellent night talking about football.”
