Bartlett and the Captain's Armband

Hereford United goalkeeper Adam Bartlett has told Bullseye about becoming the Bull's captain.

"I was surprised when the manager asked me to take on the captaincy but thought it would only be temporarily and, after Ryan Green, who was suspended for our game with Bournemouth, returned he would take on the role again.

"However, we won the Bournemouth match and I've kept the skipper's armband in our subsequent games.

"It's unusual for a keeper to captain a side and it has its advantages and disadvantages. You're in close contact with the back four and can help organise the defence but you're not in touch to the same extent with the attacking players.

"But I have experienced players like Ryan and Kenny Lunt in front of me and in effect we have three or four skippers on the field.

"it also keeps me active in the game during spells when I'm not called into action that much."

Bartlett is the Bull's third captain this season. Originally Kenny Lunt was appointed captain. Then when he missed the Port Vale game Ryan Green took over from him.

Green then missed the Bournemouth game because of suspension and Bartlett was handed the armband.

Green has recently been made club captain.
