Time for Turner to Talk

MONDAY COMMENT

It's time for Graham Turner to meet his supporters and tell them what he intends to do to stop the rot at Edgar Street.

The Hereford United chairman has recently admitted he has a lot on his plate but he can not fail to have noticed that the club are 23rd in League Two with just four points from a possible twenty-one this season to date. What a contrast from that day in late April last year at Brentford when the Bulls gained promotion to League One.

And whilst the closure of the Blackfriars End and the continuing debate about the cost of policing outside Edgar Street are important, neither are as urgent as the lack of results from the team.

Hereford United last took three points from a League game on March 24th. That's seven games with Turner in charge and nine games with John Trewick in control since the club won a League match.

There is little doubt that the club is currently losing money. Gates are down - how low next Saturday's gate for the Accrington Stanley home fixture will be remains to be seen - advertising is down and season ticket sales are down.

To be fair Turner has repeatedly said that the recession would affect Hereford United but he has also commented that the club are financially strong enough to cope. However it's probable that he didn't expect the Bulls to be in such a low position in the League by the middle of September with the effect on gate and other income that brings.

HUISA should call a fans forum for, say, 5.30pm next Saturday after the Accrington game and invite both Graham Turner and John Trewick to the meeting.

It would give them the chance to explain to the supporters how they both feel about the current problems at Hereford United and then answer questions from the floor. There would no doubt need to be a strong chairman. The proceedings could be videoed by the Offical Site and put on the net for supporters who can not make the forum.

The forum need not be all about the performance of the team. In fact the meeting could give Turner the ideal opportunity to show off the plans for the redevelopment of the Blackfriars End and give supporters an update on other matters.

However supporters deserve to be assured that the future is brighter than it looks at present and only one person can do that - Graham Turner.
