Accrington are the second League Two side to be under a transfer embargo after the taxman's court date triggered the Football League's new stringent embargo rules.
The rules, that instantly slap a transfer embargo on sides with tax debts, were brought in during the summer and Stanley are the first victims, joining Bournemouth in being unable to sign new players. They have just 20 on their books, with loanee Tom Lees replacing veteran Paul Mullin last week, and cannot go above that number with the embargo in place.
But their squad isn't as bad as bottom side Darlington. The two sides met tonight in front of a bumper 3,228 crowd at the Crown Ground to swell Stanley's survival fund. Stanley won 2-1, with another loanee, Leicester striker Billy Kee, scoring the winner.
