Gray Sacked By Cobblers

Northampton have sacked manager Stuart Gray after six games of the League Two season.

The Cobblers are 16th in the table after joining the Bulls in relegation last term. Chairman Dennis Cardoza told their official site: "It is with a heavy heart that we have come to this decision. It is necessary to consider the best interests of the club, long term and to try and win promotion this season."

First team coach Ian Sampson has been put in temporary charge. Gray was in his first managerial job, after stints as caretaker boss with Wolves, Southampton, and Aston Villa, and lasted two and a half years. He initially had some success, putting the Cobblers into the top half of the table in his first full season before last term's relegation.

The club have stated they have no immediate plans to replace him.
