Cavanagh Banned For Eight Months Over £5 Bet

Accrington captain Peter Cavanagh has been banned for eight months - and fined £3,500 - for his £5 accumulator that got him caught in the betting scandal.

With almost comedic timing, the FA announced their decision on top of their announcement in regards to Chester. Whilst Cavanagh bet repeatedly on matches using insignificant amounts, Chester have been guided by a series of incompetent chairmen that have randomly offered sums, including monies from known drug dealers, that have been used to pay wages to keep the club running.

While Cavanagh was no saint, he wasn't much of a sinner either. The others found guilty at Accrington gained roughly their winnings in the sums demanded as fines. They were also significantly more guilty on the basis on the sums involved - but that appears to be immaterial even though it is actually inconclusive whether Cavanagh actually won his accumulator or not.

Neither club nor player has stated whether they will appeal against the verdict.
