The TV sports broadcaster, Setanta, is believed to be close to administration this lunchtime.
It it understood to be losing around £90M a year at present and is unable to complete payments for recent deals.
Should a rescue for the company fail, it is thought other broadcasters such as Sky might be interested in taking over Setanta's current contracts but at a fall-back price.
If this happens the FA and the Premiership may see a shortfall in their projected income which could eventually affect lower league clubs such as Hereford United.
Setanta has been in trouble since it recently lost the rights to show as many Premier League football games. It has about 1.2million premium subscribers, according to analysts, but needs 1.9million to break even.
The Premiership is due a £35m payment from Setanta on June 15.
