DCB Misses Out As Gateshead Promoted

Ex-Bull Danny Carey-Bertram has missed out on a return to the Conference as Gateshead beat AFC Telford 1-0 in the Conf North play-off final.

For Gateshead it will mark a return to the fifth tier for the first time in 12 years. Last time in the top non-league tier they faced the Bulls in their opening Conference season, drawing the home game before losing at Edgar Street.

In other Ex-Bull news, Jay Lovett is one of a number of players to be released at Eastbourne. Lovett, who arrived at Edgar Street from Brentford on loan, played ten times for the Bulls at the back end of the 2002/3 season. Tim Sills has undergone surgery to repair his cheekbone ahead of the Conference play-off final. He has had a steel plate inserted and will see the specialist again on Monday to decide whether another mask will be required for the final.

Stuart Watkiss has been told his contract as assistant boss at Grimsby will not be renewed when it expires in the summer. The former Mansfield boss has been with the Mariners for three years, but manager Mike Newell wants his no.2 at Luton Brian Stein as his right hand man at Blundell Park.
