Darlo Sack Ten As Bidders Disappear

Darlington appear to have followed Stockport into being 'mothballed' while the club seeks a buyer.

Ten bootroom and administrative staff were today laid off with the seeming intention to run the club as a ghost ship until a buyer can be found - however bidders appear to be thin on the ground with the fan favourite pulling out.

Raj Singh, former vice chairman and unilaterally backed by supporters, has called the situation 'a joke' and pulled his 'final bid' off the table less than 24 hours after another bidder walked away over ground issues. It leaves only former chairman George Houghton at the table, with the Administators deadline for bids already 24 hours passed.

The players have been asked to take a 100% wage deferral and several are now likely to walk away with clubs likely to be tapping up potential recruits. Last weekend's legends match was claimed to have provided sufficient funds to continue through the summer, but the 3,400 gate was never likely to cover the full wage bill at the club.

The Administrators have been speaking to the PFA today over player contracts, and have promised a statement tomorrow.

Meanwhile Chesterfield have sacked manager Lee Richardson after two years, citing his failure to win promotion during his tenure. The club finished six points off the play-offs this season, and nine points last season.
