Young Bulls lose at home

Having travelled to Yeovil two weeks ago in was the turn of the West Country side to travel to City Sports Club yesterday. As with the away fixture a close fought game with the visitors returning with maximum points.

A blow was dealt against the Young Bulls before the game could start with both Joel Edwards and Tyler ruled out with injury and illness respectively. Once again the regional Manchester United Scout had come to watch their keeper Mat Gwynne.

The game was a scrappy affair spoiled by the strong cross wing making it difficult for both sides to get the ball down and play. This suited the more direct style of the visitors and they were they dictated the play as they adapted the quicker. Aidan Thomas always looked lively on the break but was not given enough good service.

It was not until the 24th minute when from two corners the Bulls were unlucky not to score. The first corner saw a fine header from centre half Mike Evans well saved by the Yeovil keeper who then lost the ball but no one was close enough to turn the ball in. The second corner saw a goal mouth scramble with the visitors again somehow managing to claw the ball away with a suspicion of hand ball. A corner at the home end proved more productive for the West Country side to give them the lead in the 43rd minute.

The second half followed the pattern of the first half with the wind again disrupting the game. Both sides found difficulty in creating chances and the game was a heading battle between the two defences. As the Bulls entered the final quarter of the game a free kick was conceded deep in their half and the curled shot evaded all players and ended up in the bottom corner of the net. Jimmy Moreton than had a good chance to pull a goal back but chose to head the ball rather than let the it come down for a shot and the keeper had an easy save to make.

A disappointing result and performance although Sam Hunt did well in his first appearance and schoolboy Will Loughman will gain vital experience from his debut. The Bulls ended the game with five under sixteen players, which bodes well for the future but perhaps left them a bit weak on the day.

Final Score: Hereford United 0 Yeovil 2
