Harlepool's Micky Nelson knows that Saturday's game against Hereford United is one that both sides need to win.
"It’s a battle for us – we haven’t scored enough goals or kept enough clean sheets this season," Nelson, who has captained the Pool's recently, told the Northern Echo.
"We have the ability to stay out of the relegation zone, we aren’t there now and it’s up to us to make sure we don’t drop into it.
"We need wins, we need them quick and it’s massively important we start the run in on Saturday with a win – we cannot afford not to.
"We need the crowd on our side, the supporters want to see their team in League One next season and coming along and getting right behind us can make a massive difference.
"If no-one comes along and the atmosphere is flat and we get turned over, the season would go from bad to worse and we would be looking at League Two next season.
"It’s not just the team on the pitch trying to keep us up, we need the fans with us as well."
Meanwhile Hereford United manager Graham Turner is still hoping his side can avoid relegation.
"We have always felt that 48 points would give us a chance of survival and there is still the belief within the camp that we can do it, especially taking into consideration that we have to play a few teams around us – Brighton, Northampton, Yeovil and Hartlepool are all in the relegation dog-fight," Turner told the Hereford Times.
