2,323 watched Forest Green last night

2323 supporters packed into the New Lawn last night to watch Forest Green Rovers and Telford battled it out in final of the Setanta Shield. The attendance figure was nearly 300 higher than the gate at Edgar Street last Tuesday when the Bulls were defeated 2-1 by Brighton.

The game which went to penalties was won by Telford. The score at full time was 0-0 and it was agreed beforehand that no extra time would be played.

Afterwards a young Telford supporter travelling on an official coach received facial injuries after a brick was thrown through a coach window. His father was also injured. The coach had just left the stadium and was travelling down Spring Hill.

Forest Green have issued a statement this morning which 'expressed on behalf of the club our deep regret that such an incident had occurred and wished both a speedy recovery.'

Secretary Colin Peake stated “This marred what was in all other aspects a great evening for the club and the local community, to show that we can stage such finals, only for one individual to throw an object towards persons who had no way to defend themselves or even be aware that an object was being thrown. We pride ourselves at the New Lawn in being a family orientated club and over the 20 years of being personally associated with this club, I cannot recall such an incident before. We made the final attractive for children to come, especially with it being screened live on television and the turn out of youngsters was higher than we anticipated. For one of those, to end what for him was an enjoyable evening, detracts from what the club is all about”
