Unfair Criticism of Edgar Street Safety Officer

Hereford United's safety officer, Len Dyke, has been taken to task by a contributer to the Hereford Heckler for failing to deal with the racial abuse of Millwall's young striker Lewis Grabban by his own supporters at the recent game between the two clubs.

After giving the details of the abuse The Heckler then goes on to say:

What the hell were the Hereford stewards doing as this was going on? It is the responsibility of Safety Officer Len Dykes to make sure his staff tackles these problems and in this case they failed to do so. They were quick enough to deal with a streaker two weeks before and I’m damn sure that if a player can hear this abuse then the stewards can too. Get it sorted Len.

Exactly how Dykes was meant to handle the situation wasn't mentioned by the Heckler.

Even if the culprits could have been identified, it would have been a very difficult task for stewards, whose job isn't the easiest at the best of times, to have gone into the Millwall supporters and deal with those responsible.

Thanks to Dyke and his stewards there is very little trouble in Edgar Street these days.
