Stockport County owe £400,000 to the Inland Revenue and need to pay some £260,000 of this by the end of this month. The remaiming amount is due to be paid by the end of March.
"There is not enough cash in the business to pay the Inland Revenue at present," said Stuart Clee, a director of the club.
The club paid the Revenue £200,000 recently and talks are on-going with the Revenue to see if payments can be delayed somewhat.
There is also an amount of £300,000 owed to a venture capitalist company.
"Expenditure was higher than expected," said David Hoyle, the Chairman of the Stockport Trust Board.
"We've had unexpected costs in such as the policing costs and costs at the training ground. We've found it difficult to keep control of the costings."
There are plans to raise money including trying to find 500 businesses and/or individuals prepared to invest £1,000 each in the club.
Stockport County have lost around £1M over the last three years.
