Hereford United's Youth team played Aldershot earlier today in an Alliance Cup match. It had already been a busy week for the players. Firsly a hard fought defeat away to Walsall in the Midland Youth Cup on Tuesday and then several of the players were required to turn out for a County friendly on Thursday.
The game started at a lively pace as usual with the Shots well up for the game. In the 5th minute of the game an excellent cross from Chris Freddi was headed wide by Tyler Weir and minutes later Jimmy Moreton repeated the sequence from another Freddi cross. The lethargic youngsters were then caught napping allowing the visiting striker to run behind the defence to score.
The Shots now took control of the match and a fine save by Liam Brewer foiled the visitors increasing their lead. At the other end Freddi hit the target from a James Cartwright cross. Joel Edwards also sent a rasping shot wide of the target. In the final ten minutes of the half the Young Bulls gained a foot hold back in the game when a foul inside the area gave Weir the chance to level the scores from the penalty spot.
The break again heard harsh words from Coach Gary Stevens on a below par performance. As with the previous week this seemed to do the trick and substitute Aidan Thomas ran through to force a save out of the Shots keeper. Second substitute Mike Evans also made a quick impact when he just fired wide with his first touch. Thomas then put in a cross only too see Moreton head past the target.
Then from a long throw by Ashley Stubbs saw Moreton direct his header into the bottom corner of the net to give us the lead. Chris Hyde then sealed the victory when he fired home after good work by Weir. Final score 3-1.
