Southend want to reverse their current fortunes with a win over the Bulls on Saturday.
Four straight losses have continued their form from their 5-1 play-off loss to Doncaster and dumped the Shrimpers into an unlikely relegation place. After their loss to Carlisle debutant striker Dougie Freedman believed the performance was an improvement on the previous efforts:
"The performance was better, but the result was the same. If we can turn that around and start turning the performances into a few results and take some points from games, that will help our confidence. Our luck will change. We've just got to keep on believing in what we're doing and keep on sticking together. When it does change, it's like a snowball effect and you start winning games that you shouldn't have."
Meanwhile midfielder Damien Scannell, a £5,000 January buy from Eastbourne, echoed Freedman's comments. The 23 year old has been sidelined recently through injury after being the standout pre-season performer but bagged two goals in the midweek reserve match:
"I don't think we have been playing as badly as some people have been saying so we're still feeling good. We don't seem to be getting much luck in games and things are going against us. But I'm sure it will only be a matter of times before we're talking about a run of victories rather than a run of defeats."
