Gary Hooper will be welcomed back at Edgar Street this afternoon even though he will be in the Scunthorpe colours.
Hooper was a pivotal part of Hereford United's promotion success last season and whilst Graham Turner failed in his efforts to bring the former Southend striker to Hereford, that failure had nothing to do with Hooper.
In the end Southend struck a better deal with Scunthorpe than with Hereford and a couple of other clubs.
"Gary did ever so well for us and I would like to have brought him to Edgar Street," said Turner as reported in the Western Daily Press.
"We agreed a fee with Southend but, unfortunately, in between the time we could get in touch with Gary, who was on holiday, other clubs came in and trebled the offer.
"So, naturally enough, Southend took up the offers and it was left to Gary to decide."
As regards this afternoon's match, the Hereford United defence will know all about Hooper. Whether they can contain him remains to be seen.
As usual there will be updates from the game on BBC Hereford and Worcester throughout the afternoon for those unable to watch the game in person.
