Hereford United played out a comfortable 2-0 victory this afternoon, but the stats for possession fail to show this. Grimsby were accredited with 52% of it, with Hereford having 48%. However, it's not how much you keep the ball, but what you do with it that counts.
The shots on goal stats does reflect Hereford's dominance however; 18 shots for the home side against just 8 for The Mariners.
Another stat from the game which is of particular interest and deserves praise is that Hereford gave away just two fouls all game. Grimsby gave away ten fouls. Praise must also be placed on the referee Neil Swarbrick who let the game flow, and had a good game in the middle.
As for the player stats, only two players were awarded 8's. These were Grimsby's Phil Barnes, who made a string of saves to keep the score at two, and Hereford's Dean Beckwith who was as solid as ever. Robbie Threlfall and Simon Johnson were harshly awarded 6's, whilst the rest of United's starting line-up were given 7's.
