Although it looks as though the top two places in League Two are going to belong to MK Dons and Peterborough the third automatic promotion spot is still likely to be a battle between up to five clubs. Whilst below Darlington on goal difference Hereford United, who have two games in hand over the Quakers, lead the chasing pack and, as our Bulls News Potential Points Table shows, are currently best placed to take that third position.
However both the Bulls and Darlington have stumbled recently with the Quakers taking just two points from their last four games and the Bulls one from their last two games.
The clubs still in with a chance of taking the third automatic spot are Hereford United, Darlington, Stockport, Rochdale and Wycombe. All could, in theory, reach at least 85 points.
As regards the reaching play-offs the following clubs can be added to the above list - Chesterfield, Morecambe, Grimsby, and Bradford but it would be a miracle if Grimsby or Bradford can now obtain enough points. In theory all these clubs can obtain at least 72 points. Hereford have 74 points so, whatever happens, will be in the play-offs.
(The list shows the current position in the League Table and the PP figure shows the maximium points any club can acheive)
1 Peterborough PP 100
2 Milton Keynes Dons PP 103
3 Darlington PP 89
4 Hereford PP 95
5 Stockport PP 90
6 Wycombe PP 85
7 Rochdale PP 86
8 Chesterfield PP 78
9 Morecambe PP 75
10 Grimsby PP 73
12 Bradford PP 72
Nothing is settled at the bottom of the table but it looks as though Wrexham and probably Mansfield are doomed to playing in the Conference next season. Replacing them should be Aldershot who are fourteen points ahead of second placed Torquay who will need to win the play-offs if they are to spend just one season out of League Two.
It looks like Port Vale, Luton and Bournmouth will be playing in League Two next season. Either Gillingham, Crewe and Milwall will join them.
However, with a bit of luck, whoever plays in League Two next season may only be of a passing interest to Hereford United and their supporters.
