Quakers Pair Leave

Darlington have released striker Martin Smith, and have seen their Managing Director leave.

Former Sunderland man Smith, 32, has started only one game this season as a sucession of injuries ruled him out. He was due out of contract in the summer and was not expected to play again this season through injury.

Chief Executive Barry Simmonds is also on the way out after only arriving at the club in the summer. He follows former Boston chairman Jon Sotnick out the door after taking over Sotnick's day to day duties three months ago.

His departure comes as a surprise to most Quakers fans, though they admit poor attendances are likely to be squeezing finances at the Darlington Arena.
