During a conversation this afternoon between Simon Mayo and Richard Bevan, recently appointed chief of the League Managers Association, Graham Turner's name cropped up.
The discussion centred on two particular issues, the length managers stay at one club and the amount of foreign players in the UK.
Turner's name could have cropped up under either issue but it was his ability to search out Lionel Ainsworth that was highlighted.
The point was made that by good scouting Turner, manager at Hereford United, had helped a young British player whereas many managers, particularily those at a higher level than Turner, seemed more likely to pay out for a foreign player and dis-regard 'local' talent.
A contributer to the programme mentioned a transfer fee of around £300,000 for Ainsworth.
Meanwhile Beven admitted he took an interest in Shrewsbury Town and reminded listeners that manager Gary Peters was in his fourth season with the club. (About a third of the time Graham Turner has been in charge at Edgar Street.)
