Butcher Leaves Brentford

Terry Butcher has left Brentford 'by mutual consent' according to a statement on the official Brentford site.

The former England international was backed only days ago by the full board, with chairman Greg Dyke telling fans that a sacking was not in the interests of the club. However, just days after their latest defeat Butcher has departed with the fans boos ringing in his ears.

The club won just five of Butcher's 23 games in charge, and scored a solitary goal in his last seven games. The club are in 19th place in the table, just four points short of the relegation places.

Assistant Andy Scott, a former Brentford striker, will take charge of Saturday's game with Wrexham although the club are expected to appoint a more experienced manager soon.
