To Elland Road and Back

Tales of the journey to and from Elland Road are emerging this morning as Hereford United supporters who made the long trip wake up to relate their experiences.

Journeys to the ground from Herefordshire of five hours were common place amidst fans who took the M5/M42 route where massive delays were reported after earlier problems. The heavy rain that set in during the journey added to the delays.

One supporter said it took him two hours to drive from Junction Seven of the M5 to Hopwood services on the M42, a journey that usually takes around half an hour.

The 'Funbus' carrying around 50 fans broke down near Worcester but managed to get going after repairs, these fans arrived at the stadium just after Lionel Ainsworth had scored the only goal of the game.

The stadium itself was as expected - suitable for a team in the Premiership or Championship. But disappointingly devoid of Leeds supporters who for whatever reason appeared to have decided this game wasn't worth watching. Or perhaps they didn't want to see their team lost their first game at home this season.

Those that were there were outsung by the Hereford support and boos could be hear at the end of the match. Even their stewards gave up trying to make the Hereford fans sit down.

Plenty of car parking for Hereford supporters was available, again not surprising as so few Leeds fans bothered to turn out, perhaps a little expensive at £5. But the organisation to get cars out of the parks and back onto the motorways was excellent .

Unfortunately one Hereford supporter returned from the stadium to his car to find it had been broken into. A window had been smashed and there was glass everywhere.

Finally a few Hereford fans met three very happy Forest Green fans at Hopwood services on the way back from Leeds. The Grumpers provided the other shock from last evening by defeating Rotherham.

"How many did Fleetwood score" - "Just the one!".
