Beckwith may have broken jaw

Dean Beckwith may have a broken jaw as a result of a collision with a Chester player last night. The Hereford United defender went off for attention early in the game, came back on for a minute or so and then had another bump.

Afer the game manager Graham Turner spoke to BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"He had an x-ray at Chester hospital. We're waiting for the results of an x-ray. We're not quite sure whether he'll be kept in, whether they will operate tonight.

"We're not quite sure whether he will need a pin.

"If he does need surgery, it's a jaw. It's not a cheek like John Terry. We're told it could be six weeks if he does need surgery."

Turner was disappointed with the first half showing of his side.

"I was disappointed with our passing. Unless we pass the ball and make somebody available to receive the ball we look a poor side. I felt we let Chester dictate too much in that period."

The manager was happier with the second half performance.

"The introduction of Lionel added, but even before that the signs were good. We opened the game right up and we passed it like we can.

"In that period as well as equalising we might have got a second goal. But in the last five minutes we went to sleep on the left hand side and they got in. It took some good saves and clean handling fom Wayne Brown to keep us the point. On a greasy night like this any of those shots could have slipped in and I thought he had a very good finish to the game.

"We went a goal down and the attitude changes and we have to go out and do something. The change is the side was absolutely incredible - the way we opened the game up.

"I thought we started (to change) before Lionel came on. We needed his pace out wide. We started to look as though we were beginning to play a little bit. He just added to that with his pace and his ability to take full backs on. He got some great crosses in."
