Penney Knows Purdie's Position

Former Hereford United midfielder Rob Purdie could have thought that he would be used in many different positions next season at his new club Darlington, but manager Dave Penney believes Purdie, 24, should play in central midfield.

"I'd seen Rob quite a bit and wasn't sure but since we signed him and had him in training he's looked a quality player. He can play anywhere. He's a real footballer and he certainly can play anywhere you want him to. He's 24 but he's already played 260 games which is a lot for a young lad. With his energy, the way he gets box to box, if he plays central midfield this season then he should get ten goals." said Penney to the Northern Echo.

Penney has also paid tribute to former Hereford United scout Ron Jukes, who spotted Purdie as a youngster at Leicester, and also helped the former Doncaster manager to where he is now.

"The man that saw him at Leicester City was the same man who took me out of non-league 22 years ago, a fella called Ron Jukes, a man who knows the game very well. Over the years he also spotted Michael McIndoe (now Bristol City), Gavin Williams (Ipswich) and Paul Parry (Cardiff) - people like that, so he's well respected."
