Coldicott Speaks

Former Bull Stacy Coldicott has spoken to the Grimsby Telegraph about his new career as a firefighter.

The Redditch born midfielder left the Bulls 12 months ago with a year left on his contract after a lengthy struggle for fitness. He told the paper that being a firefighter was his dream job, and that helped his decision to leave the Bulls:

"I always fancied being a firefighter so it didn't just come out of the blue. It is a difficult job to get into so when it came up last year I had a think and went for it. There was no problem at Hereford, I had just had an indifferent season and thought it might be a good time to call it a day.

"I wanted to move back north to be with the family as well so it all worked out for me really. I don't have any regrets a year on - I love the job. You get more time off for one thing - four days on then four off. Obviously the pay doesn't compare with football but you have to do something.

"A lot of players at lower league level will go into work after football and many will just go through the motions in what I would call a dead-end job to make ends meet. Football doesn't last forever. But I am fortunate to be doing something I always had an eye on doing."

Coldicott will combine his duties with an occasional playing role at Grantham Town for the coming season, where his 'day job' is also based.
