League Two wages have risen 28% in seven years, according to a new survey by The Independent.
Back in 2000, when the last survey was done, average League Two wages were £38,800, approx £750 a week, but are now £49,600 - nearly £1,000 a week. However League Two wages are rising slower than the Premiership and Championship, who both saw rises over 50%, with League One seeing a 24% rise.
Forwards are again the highest paid players, earning nearly 50% more than their counterparts in other positions. The average forward took home £350 a week more than anyone else, with defenders the poor relations earning £100 less than the average.
The survey claims the average Premiership player is paid £13,000 a week, or the total playing budget of half of the League Two sides. Championship players are paid £3,750 a week, with League One players getting £1,300.
The report's findings suggest that, if Hereford United paid average wages on an assumed allowed wage bill of £750,000, the Bulls would have a squad of no more than 15.
