All Change At Torquay

Torquay have another new Chairman, with the new chief making Director of Football Colin Lee redundant.

Mervyn Benney becomes the club's fifth chief in 12 months, and his first act has been to make redundant Colin Lee. The former Wolves boss had a year left on his contract, but the decision was made after a budget was decided for the coming season with Benney telling the club website:

"We are going to be working on a tight budget this year and a Director of Football is a luxury we cannot afford. We will be putting the majority of our budget into the playing side for next season. We are hoping to announce a Head Coach/Player Coach within the next couple of days."

The departure of Lee comes after head coach Keith Curle admitted that he expected to not be offered a deal for next season, while their retained list announcement has been delayed until a new boss is found.

Former chairman, and current owner, Mike Bateson and his wife Sue have both quit the board despite no acceptable offers coming in for his majority shareholding. Bateson fully intends to have no further day-to-day involvement with the club, and hopes to sell his interest soon.
