Bulls supremo Graham Turner spoke at length in his programme notes for last nights HFA Senior Floodlit Cup game about the state of the Edgar Street playing surface.
“The playing surface is not as good as we would have liked, it has deteriorated quite remarkably over the past few months, although from the sides it may look reasonable, but it is not an easy surface to pass the ball on. We will shortly be taking steps to alleviate the problem with extensive work being carried out in the close season. Work is scheduled to begin on the 8th May giving a long close season before we play on it again. We are also investing in a new irrigation system; it’s pointless paying out a five-figure sum for reparation work and then not being able to water adequately. I’m hoping that come next August we will have the best playing surface ever seen at Edgar Street. The players have enjoyed going to some of the bigger clubs in this division and performing on good surfaces, improvement to ours should make it easier to get our passing game going at home and with that an improvement in our home results.”
In the short term, fans would no doubt hope that at least a heavy roll could be employed prior to the visit of neighbouring Shrewsbury City for the “A49 Bragging Rites” final home match of the season.
