This report comes from Simon Wright.
John 'Tucka' Trewick was a guest of honour of the WBA Supporters Club last night (Thurs) as part of a reunion dinner for the WBA promotion side of 1975/76. Not that he was the only guest, as most of the promotion team including Bryan Robson, Willie Johnston and Tony Brown were also present, together with the bulk of the FA Youth Cup winning side from the same season. Tucka was asked to say a few words to the sell-out audience of 340 diners. John talked about the presence of so many good players making the difference while he considered that Johnny Giles making training fun was fundamental to their success.
I grabbed a brief word with Tucka as he was en route to the Gents and rather cheekily asked whether he would be polite to Alan Buckley on Saturday (the pair have disagreed strongly in the past while they were both working at the Hawthorns). It wouldn't be fair to include Tuck'a response. Work it out for yourself on Saturday.
For anyone interested, there's video footage of the evening below
http://www.expressandstar.co.uk/video/sport/070309_baggiesoldboys/ Tucka features in the team line-up shots.
Tucka wasn't the only Hereford link because although he didn't play in that FA Youth Cup team, most of the players within it grew up at WBA about the same time as Nicky Cross (who played for the Bulls in the mid-nineties). Nicky asked if he could come along too. These days, he is very active in raising money for the Former WBA Players Association in between his work as a financial advisor.
