Accrington Stanley's offer for striker Clayton Donaldson has been described by York City boss Billy McEwan as an "embarrassment".
Donaldson is the Conference's top scorer with 20 goals to date.
"The offer was an embarrassment to our club and the player and is not even worth talking about. They were trying to take the Mickey and offered a derisory sum of money as well as a player I have been looking at for a long time," said McEwan as reported by the York press.
It was then said that Accrington had upped their offer but York denied they had received any increased offer.
"We can confirm that we received a written offer of £25,000 plus a player but that was rejected and we have had no further communication from Accrington Stanley and no further offers have been made," said a York spokesperson.
Scunthorpe and Peterborough are said to be interested in the striker whom York value at around £500,000.
Although Accrington have received two transfer fees recently, for Ian Craney and Gareth Roberts, they are thought to be finding life in League Two difficult. Just 1234 supporters turned up for their game against Mansfield last Tuesday.
