Weymouth have confirmed that Ben Smith has rejoined the Bulls for an undisclosed fee - the first fee paid for a player since Neil Grayson nearly ten years ago.
The one time Arsenal trainee played 55 times for the Bulls between 2002 and 2004, scoring 18 times from midfield. Despite his undoubted talent, his injury record proved his undoing in his first stint with the notoriously cautious manager Graham Turner offering only a one year extension following a series of shoulder injuries.
Smith moved to Shrewsbury on a substantial two year deal, but fell out of favour as new manager Gary Peters chose a more direct style of play than that suited to the midfielder. He joined Weymouth on a free transfer last January after receiving an 'unbelievable' offer from the ambitious club.
He has scored ten goals this season, and has been a virtual ever-present for Weymouth since arriving at the Wessex Stadium - suggesting that his injury problems are behind him. However, the player may be lacking match fitness after not playing since New Years Day due to a one match suspension and a series of postponements.
Meanwhile, Stockport have confirmed that ex-Bull Mark Robinson has joined Torquay on a contract until the end of the season. Robinson left Edgar Street to reunite with former boss Chris Turner at Edgeley Park but slipped out of the first team picture as current boss Jim Gannon shaped his side.
