Immediately after the Bulls beat Macclesfield, manager Brian Horton was relieved of his duties by the Macclesfield board.
Horton joined the club in April 2004 saving the club from relegation, and took them to the League Two play-offs in his first full season. Last season was a struggle as budget cuts took hold leaving the club just five points from relegation, and the Silkmen had failed to record a victory in 13 league and cup matches so far this season.
