Tamika Mkandawire, the Hereford United captain, admitted the Bulls could have performed better in the first half.
"There was a bit of luck to their goal (Brown scored the first goal)," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester.
"I thought for the first twenty minutes we were the better side but towards the end of the half they started to get on top a little bit."
Unfortunately the second Accrington goal was scored by Mkandawire from a corner.
"I didn't expect it to come at me. I couldn't do anything about that."
After the second goal Hereford seemed to step up a gear.
"We definately dug deep and rolled our sleeves up. There is a lot more resiliance in this side."
Asked about the hand ball which resulted in a penalty for the Bulls, Mkandawire said he couldn't see whether it was deliberate.
"I think it was a harsh red card. I think it was blasted at him but that was our little bit of luck that we needed.
"It was a great save and Fleet did well to put it in.
"I think they were a bit scared of us (towards the end). After they had the man sent off we were dominant and I thought we did really well.
"Great finish off Nicolau (for the second goal).
Mkandawire also said the crowd was much better today.
"They seemed to get behind us a bit more. We need that more often because it does help."
